MAIN
Hello there, and welcome back to the Mountain Practice Journeys podcast! I’m your host, Cindy. Here in Episode 100 I’m going to share with you why you’ll never reach the finish line.
I’m always talking to my clients and colleagues about how our businesses are experiments. I also believe that our businesses are the vehicles in which we grow and evolve. We’re always trying something new, making tweaks here and there, and adapting to the changing environment, in both business and life.
But, as much as we like stability, change is inevitable. The only constant is change. So it’s important that we evolve by embracing change instead of fighting against it. In the past I always found myself imagining when I finally arrive and how great that day will be. But, arrive to where? I don’t exactly know. And, when will I arrive? I’m still not sure, but it will be soon, I can feel it.
And there was this belief that if I just worked hard enough I’ll get to this stable place where I don’t have to worry anymore. That I’ll finally reach the summit of the mountain and I can just stay there and relax. A place where I’ll be rewarded for all my effort.
Well, after being on this earth for 42 years, I’m finally starting to understand that this life is not an upward trending graph where we win at life when we reach the summit.
So I want everyone to take that visual of the upward trending graph and set it ablaze. I believe that the upward trending graph is what is wrong with the world today. Always wanting more. An insatiable need to outperform your last year, your last quarter, your last week, your last hour, and even your last minute.
The upward trending graph causes a lot of problems, but most of all it is responsible for a couple of things. First, the insatiable greed that is destroying our world. And, second, the sheer exhaustion of those trying to make a living to either support the insatiable greed of those they are employed by, or the guilt that we have been conditioned to carry if we are not constantly achieving and competing with everyone else to see who worked the most hours in a week.
Life is nothing like the upward trending graph, no matter what you’ve been conditioned to believe. Life is actually a cycle, it’s a circle, it’s a wheel, it is ever-changing like the seasons. Now take a moment and imagine the upward spiral. This is what life really is.
We circle back around to the same things, over and over again. And if you’re not paying attention it can feel like you are just getting pummeled, over and over again. But if you can take a step back and look at the image of the upward spiral, you’ll begin to notice that as you circle back around to similar experiences and situations, you are getting better and better at navigating your way through.
The more I have began replacing the mental image of the upward trending graph with the image of the upward spiral, the more I can relax into myself and trust the process. And this doesn’t mean that things are always easy, because they aren’t. No matter what image you have in your mind, there will be days where you feel absolutely defeated. But there’s something about the upward spiral that gives me comfort during those times. And I hope that you can find some comfort in this imagery as well.
Over the past several years, I have been incorporating a seasonal and cyclical approach with all that I do. I have grown weary of the always hustling, capitalistic world and I am doing something different. So if you’d like a fresh perspective and approach to your life or your business, feel free to schedule a mentoring session with me on my website at mountainpracticejourneys.com Click the BEGIN. button and select Coffee & Coaching. ACORN (Tarot Card Pull)
Welcome to the acorn segment. With each solo episode I’ll be drawing a tarot card to help provide some magickal inspiration and insight.
The card for this episode is the Nine of Wands.
I’ll describe the card for those of you who may not be familiar. The Nine of Wands features a weary man standing with a bandage around his head grasping a wand, with eight wands standing behind him. It looks as though he has been through a tough battle, but survived.
This card is all about persistence, courage, and resilience. It is a reminder that there will be struggles in life, and you may feel as though you are constantly being challenged. But know that you have everything that you need within you to overcome any obstacle you face.
And tying this card back to our topic today, if you look in the background of the card, there is a collection of wands. Each wand represents experience, knowledge, and wisdom that you have acquired as you make your way around the upward spiral. With each hardship or setback, you are growing, evolving, and getting stronger in your body, mind, and spirit.
I’ll post a picture of the card along with the message today on my instagram @mountainpracticejourneys so head on over and let me know if this message resonates with you at this time.
